Barly Tengho: A Warm Handwritten Font for Branding Projects

There’s something about the first moment you open a blank brand board that feels both exciting and intimidating. It’s like standing at the edge of a canvas, ready to create something that will represent your client’s identity. I recently found myself in that exact situation while working on a boutique identity project. The client wanted a brand that felt personal, approachable, and slightly whimsical. That’s when I reached for Barly Tengho.

A Font with Personality

Barly Tengho is a charming and casual handwritten font that brings a warm, awesome touch to your designs. Its playful strokes and natural flow create a sense of authenticity, making it perfect for branding projects that need a human feel. I immediately saw how it could bring warmth and character to the logo concept. The font feels like it was written by a friend who loves to doodle and has a great sense of style.

The personality of Barly Tengho is unmistakable. It’s not overly ornate or too bold, but it carries a certain charm that makes it stand out. The strokes are fluid, almost as if they were drawn with a pen, which gives it an organic feel. This makes it ideal for projects where you want to convey a sense of creativity and individuality.

Testing Barly Tengho in Real Design Work

I used Barly Tengho in several key areas of the branding project: the logo, brand board, packaging mockup, business card, website header, and social media layout. Each time, it performed well, especially in the logo and headline sections. The font’s natural flow made it easy to read at larger sizes, and its casual vibe complemented the client’s vision perfectly.

One of my favorite moments was placing Barly Tengho on a packaging mockup. The font looked great against the product, adding a friendly and inviting feel. It helped the brand feel more relatable and less corporate. However, I also noticed that at smaller sizes, the legibility can drop slightly. That’s something to keep in mind when using it for body text or long-form content.

Font Pairing and Design Applications

Barly Tengho works best as a display font, headline font, or accent font. It’s not designed for long body text, so I’d recommend pairing it with a clean sans serif or serif font for supporting text. For example, I paired it with a modern sans serif font like Montserrat for the website header and social media posts. This created a nice contrast that kept the design balanced and readable.

When it comes to design applications, Barly Tengho is versatile. It shines in logo design, editorial design, packaging design, web design, and social media graphics. It’s also great for business cards, posters, flyers, and even creative studio identities. However, I wouldn’t recommend using it for formal corporate use or any project that requires high readability at small sizes.

One thing I noticed was how it looked on a shop sign. It had a great presence and drew attention without being overwhelming. On Instagram posts, it added a personal touch that aligned with the brand’s aesthetic. But on printed cards, I had to make sure the font was clear enough to be legible from a distance.

Practical Tips and Considerations

If you’re considering using Barly Tengho for a client project, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, always test the font in different contexts before finalizing your design. Check how it looks on a shop sign, product mockup, packaging label, homepage hero section, and printed card. This will help you ensure it meets the client’s needs and performs well across various mediums.

Also, make sure to review the included styles, alternates, ligatures, swashes, weights, multilingual support, file formats, and webfont availability. These features can enhance the font’s versatility and usability. Finally, don’t forget to check the commercial font licensing before using it in client work, brand identity, packaging, templates, merchandise, websites, digital products, or print-on-demand products.

Barly Tengho is a great addition to any designer’s toolkit, especially for those looking to add a touch of warmth and personality to their branding projects. It’s a premium font that offers both style and functionality, making it a valuable asset in the world of modern typography.
